Proverbs 5
One Sunday morning, the vicar announced, “Today, I am going to say a single word and you are going to help me preach. Whatever single word I say, I want you to sing whatever hymn that comes to your mind.”
So he shouted out CROSS. Immediately, the congregation started singing in unison THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.
He shouted out GRACE. They began to sing AMAZING GRACE.
He said POWER. They sang THERE IS POWER ,POWER WONDER WORKING POWER.
The vicar finally said SEX. The congregation fell in total silence. Everyone was in shock. They all nervously began to look around at each other.
Then all of a sudden, from way back in the church, a little 88 year old grandmother stood up and began to sing MEMORIES LIKE THE CORNERS OF MY MIND.
How do we get through this life and be sexually pure as this chapter commands?
Maybe you sinned sexually years ago or even last night. Maybe you have sinned whether behaviourally or in your thought life and maybe any mention of sexual immorality brings condemnation to the surface and you wonder if you will ever be free from guilt.
You may be reading this today and you are a victim of a sexual scandal.
Then again you may be a person who hasn’t sinned sexually and you are not a victim of a scandal and now the danger of it ever happening is extremely limited compared to many years ago!
Then there will be those who haven’t sinned sexually as yet but they have many years in front of them and the chances are high that they will, or become a victim of someone’s actions.
However you would describe yourself, all of us have been tainted in some way by sexual immorality at some point in our lives.
It is impossible to live in such a sexually immoral saturated world and not need the cleansing that Jesus Christ alone can bring! We get through because of Jesus!
