We’ve all been chased at some point in our childhood, even in our adulthood! A particular fear is attached to the experience. Of course, some are facing this experience, which is far more than a childhood game. But 1 John 4 v 4 says: “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”.
In a couple of verses, we see how God had already moved before they even realised it. His move was their protection.
“ Then the angel of God, who had been travelling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.” (Exodus 14 v 19-20)
We all know the feeling of the enemy pressing in hard. We wonder if we will be caught, overtaken and destroyed.
These 2 verses describe a God who has got your back. You don’t have to keep checking over your shoulder.
God stands in the gap and protects you even when you are sleeping.
God doesn’t ask you to defend yourself but to trust that the one who has been guiding you for years will also guard you when it is needed.
Remember the old hymn, ‘Because He lives’? Jesus Christ is alive, and because of this, your future is not to be feared, whatever future that is. The God who has already conquered doesn’t need you to win the battle. He needs you to trust him with it.
God stood between His people and everything that threatened them, and He didn’t move until morning came.
He hasn’t changed.
